X-RAY
What is an X-ray examination?
Using x-rays, we can take images of different body areas. Plain x-ray
examination is excellent for ‘seeing’ bone and lungs.
How do I prepare for my X-ray?
- If you have been referred by your doctor for an X-ray and would like to make
a booking, please call 9076 1411
- You must have a referral form from a medical practitioner
- If you wear light comfortable clothing without buttons, metal zips, buckles
or hooks around the area being x-rayed, you may not need to change into a
hospital gown.
- There is no other preparation required for a plain x-ray examination
- Please inform the booking clerk if you weigh more than 150 kgs.
Just prior to the X-ray
- You may be asked to remove jewellery and other metal from the body part we
are examining.
- Patients in the waiting area are not always X-rayed in order of arriving in the department, some may be having other examinations such as
angiograms
During the X-ray examination
- All x-ray examinations will be performed by an experienced radiographer
- A single examination will take an average of 10 minutes, but may take up to
one hour for stretcher patients in need of x-raying multiple body areas.
- You will be asked to lie or stand in different positions while the images
are acquired.
What do I do after the examination has finished?
- The radiologist’s report and your images will be automatically forwarded to
your doctor.
- Return to your doctor to discuss your examination results.
